Bathroom Mixer
Taps
Mixing and Matching Bathroom Mixer Taps. In
days gone by, fashion followed function in the selection of
bathroom mixer taps.
Today, bathroom mixer taps are taking on a
whole new dimension as many homeowners are trying their best
to strike a good balance between function and fashion.
Trendy styles and classy materials
have taken over simple design concepts, creating an aura of
sophistication even in the bathroom.
Bathroom Mixer
Taps -A Family of Taps
Bathroom mixer taps are mainly
composed of the basin mixer tap, bath mixer tap, shower
mixer tap, and bidet mixer tap. The selection of
bathroom mixer taps should be the product of a conscientious
effort to match all the taps in the bathroom to evoke a
coordinated and thematic tone.
Basin mixer taps come in a
variety of sizes and designs depending on the manufacturers.
Most basin mixer taps are now available with a built-in pop
up waste (PUW) mechanism to prevent the clogging of drainage
systems. Different manufacturers have different names for
different designs. However, the basic designs for most
brands are the same and they can be described as
follows:
-
Mono basin mixer tap – The hot and
cold water supplies, the mixer mechanism, and the
faucet are all incorporated in one fitting and
mounted in one hole over the rear rim of the
basin.
-
Three-hole basin mixer tap – The hot
and cold water supplies are each mounted on separate
holes. The faucet is mounted in the center of the
two holes, using a total of three holes.
-
Thermostatic basin mixer tap – A
thermostatic valve incorporated into the mixer is
responsible for adjusting water temperature and flow
to the desired degree. The basin mixer tap can be
mounted in one hole, two, or three holes, depending
on the design.
As with all their bathroom fixture cousins,
bath mixer taps have come a long way and the
market today is awash with unlimited choices. There are,
however, two general types still in use and they are:
-
Traditional bath mixer tap – The
process of mixing hot and cold water is controlled
by a mechanical valve sealed with rubber washers
that tend to wear out over time. Control of the
desired water temperature is done manually by
adjusting either the hot or cold control lever. This
type of tap can work fairly well under high or low
water pressure.
-
Ceramic disk mixer tap – As the name
implies, two ceramic disks attached to the mixer are
responsible for controlling the flow of water and
the desired temperature. Rubber washers are a thing
of the past. Although this type of tap needs low
maintenance, performs better, and lasts longer, it
is relatively more costly. Likewise, it is less
effective under low water pressure.
Bathroom Mixer
Tasp Versus Shower Mixer Taps
Shower mixer taps basically have
similar features as those of bath mixer taps as they
oftentimes are interconnected. In the absence of a bath tub
under the shower, the shower mixer tap has no place but the
wall under the shower.
Again, like all bathroom mixer
taps, bidet mixer taps have the same
components and functions. Except for just one model I have
viewed, all the other bidet mixer taps are mounted in one
hole.
